Staging for Macheso’s comeback concert

Alick Macheso on his birthday in Harare last year

SUNGURA maestro Alick Macheso has returned from the UK, where he performed at this year’s edition of the SAMA festival.

On Saturday he will meet his legions of fans at a Welcome Home family show at Andy Miller Hall (Harare Show Grounds) courtesy of F and G Promotions.

“We are honored to host Sungura King Alick Macheso’s welcome family show and preparations are at an advanced stage. Macheso is a big brand that almost anyone in arts promotion would want to host,” said one of the show’s organizers, Philemon Jambaya. NewsDay Life & Style.

“This family show will start at 2pm and there will be a variety of activities for the kids including face painting and bouncy castles.”

Jambaya said that as a newcomer to promoting the arts, their strategy was to host many family shows as they sought to break into the competitive showbiz industry.

“As F&G, we want people to be able to attend musical performances with their families in a friendly environment that makes them comfortable enjoying live music from their favorite musicians. That’s why we went with Andy Miller Hall,” he said.

“We appreciate the time families have to spend together and this family show gives them the opportunity to bond while drinking and partying.”

Jambaya said they will be hosting more family shows in the coming months.

“Although we are a relative newcomer to promoting the arts, the playing field seems to be level as we are not in competition with anyone. We are just here to give the best in terms of music promotion.

Jambaya said strict COVID-19 protocols and guidelines would be observed at the show and also encouraged fans to arrive early for the event.

“There’s a curfew that we have to observe, so the show starts and ends early so we give revelers time to get home without breaking the law,” he said.

Supported by his band Orchestra Mberikwazvo, Macheso has an enduring record of passionate fans who give value to their money.

During the concert, Macheso will be supported by jazz musician Jean Masters and Afro-Fusion musician Madhuve Sasha as well as the Police Band, among others, while popular DJ Sqilla will spin the wheel on the decks.
