The Queen has held her weekly telephone audience with Boris Johnson despite COVID-19, Buckingham Palace has said. The 95-year-old monarch, who tested positive for coronavirus on Sunday, canceled virtual hearings on Tuesday as she continued to suffer from mild symptoms. A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: “Her Majesty spoke to the Prime Minister this evening.” There will have been a lot to discuss during the conversation with Johnson on Wednesday evening, with the government dealing with the escalating crisis in Ukraine. Johnson is also implicated in the so-called “partygate” saga, with the Metropolitan Police investigating a dozen events, including up to six he allegedly attended. The Queen’s advanced age, diagnosis of COVID-19, more fragile appearance and recent health scare mean her medical team will be watching her progress closely, but being well enough to speak to the Prime Minister will be taken as an encouraging sign . It is understood the Queen had also scheduled a separate in-person hearing in the newspaper for Wednesday, but that was canceled on Monday under isolation guidelines. The country’s longest-reigning monarch, who has been triple vaccinated, recently spent more than three months in bed, on the orders of doctors. Next week, the head of state has a major engagement when she has to organize the diplomatic reception and meet hundreds of dignitaries in Windsor. Johnson is the 14th prime minister in the Queen’s long reign. Australian Associated Press
