England rugby fans mocked in TV ad ahead of Australia Test series

The Aussies stirred the pot ahead of this summer’s Test series by poking fun at the perception that England rugby fans are posh.

A TV advert for Stan Sport’s match coverage depicts a group of England rugby fans as stuffy and overconfident as they enjoy a tea party at ‘The Royal Sydney High Tea Room’.

Then, amid their complaints about Aussie beer being ‘too cold’, Australian 300lb giant Taniela Tupou heads for tea in muddy boots and full Wallaby kit. England fans are pictured looking sunburned and spitting their cake on the table as the Queensland Reds powerhouse bends down to steal a scone.

One of the revelers said, “It’s good to know that we’re going to cheer on the winners!” Tupou pats the gentleman on the back and replies, “Thanks for the support mate!”, before asking someone else on the table if he’s going to finish his cake!

Avant-garde television adverts were more prevalent around the Six Nations, before a controversial effort was withdrawn because it mocked the English.

England kick off their Test series against Australia on Saturday July 2. The tour will span three weekends, starting in Perth before ending in Sydney on July 16. Eddie Jones’ side haven’t had the best start to the summer as the Barbarians beat England 52-21 at the weekend.

Wales also kick off their summer series on July 2 when they play South Africa in Pretoria.
