Eight years after the closure of Warhammer Online, fans are bringing back to life two capitals that were never in the game • Eurogamer.net

Warhammer Online closed eight years ago, but it survives thanks to the hard work of dedicated fans.

The return of accounts is a private Warhammer Online server that has been around for a while now, but this weekend has taken a pretty impressive milestone: the release of two capitals that were planned for the fantasy MMO but never made it into the game official.

The Dwarven Hometown of Karaz-A-Karak and the Greenskin Hometown of Karak Eight Peaks were two of four capitals that were featured in the Warhammer Online beta but were removed prior to launch. Only two capitals – Altdorf and The Inevitable City – have been officially released.

Now Karaz-A-Karak and Karak Eight Peaks are live in Return of Reckoning. It’s the work of volunteers who have dedicated thousands of hours to recreate, develop, and publish what late developer Mythic Entertainment started over a decade ago.

The video below shows the new zones:

I’ve had an eye on Return of Reckoning for quite some time now. I played Warhammer Online when it launched as an alternative to World of Warcraft (I still remember the studio fights before launch), but quickly lost the train because the game’s original promise did not materialize.

The people behind Return of Reckoning deserve huge credit for taking what Mythic started and developing – and it certainly seems worth it. A recent Dwarfs vs Greenskins themed PvP event saw 1,100 players on a single map. It’s rather good!

And the team hasn’t finished either. He said he plans to add a new city siege system, a new area called Land of the Dead, and missing dungeons.

If you’re wondering how Return of Reckoning, which uses the assets of the original game, is allowed to exist with Games Workshop and EA, which released Warhammer Online, sniffing the developers said they “reject any money or support from any way “. , which they hope “enough to stay off their radar.”

“As long as we can, Return of Reckoning will be there to push the boundaries of Warhammer Online,” the developers said.
